I was diagnosed with seizures as a teenager, just as I was about to go off and do exciting things, travel the world, and go to uni. I had a seizure, I thought it was a one off at first, but then I had more! It was the most awful experience.

I came from Delta; In Nigeria. I was a always scared about how my epilepsy will be perceived in my community. My family and I didn’t know much about it, feared the condition and were in denial about it therefore just didn’t speak about it. 

My Parents & husband naturally, became very overprotective and no longer wanted me to do anything on my own. If I was going out with a friend’s or to the cinema, he always insisted on dropping me there, I felt like I was losing my independence. I felt like my life was pretty much over because I had always been a free bird and very independent. At the time, I was first diagnosed with seizures i was looking forward to leaving school, travelling, going to university, experiencing different cultures etc… 

My family advised that I didn’t travel and as they were concerned about my safety, this made me feel a little trapped and I could not live a normal life which was a struggle. 

The more stressed I got as regards my condition, the more likely I was to have a seizure. I visited hospitals and met with some GPs and neurologists and i was given a lot of medications and pills, which i kept taking but i never got any result at the time.

I had almost given up before i came across this particular “very intriguing” remedy. I decided to give it a try and then i got it shortly after; that was the turning point for my condition!.

I started using them in accordance with the directives. Honestly i really didn’t care what the supplements are or where they are from, I just wanted help, so I used them accordingly with the directives suggested and on the 3rd week, I started feeling changes, I was getting stronger than before, i was able to start doing my daily activities. Ifeyinwa says helping the people in her support group by providing meals and answering their questions helps her forget about her own problems. “The thing that gives me power and strength is my deep desire to help others,” she said. “It makes me feel more in control. It gives me a purpose in life. I forget about being scared.”

“A lot of things happened to me in my life. I’ve always been afraid; always worried for my life. Now I’m not as anxious. I’ve tackled the beast. I wasted too much energy being afraid. I’ve tackled this – I can tackle anything.”

My seizures are better controlled now. I have come to terms with my epilepsy and feel more comfortable in my own skin. I accept me for who I am. My family is different now, too. They say “if we could do it all again, we would do things differently.”
